Project Engineer

We work globally taking those massive data streams (TBs / day of data) compressing them and depositing in our cloud repository, the Scattersphere to extract intelligence about the cable’s environment. Role Purpose
Indeximate occupy a leadership position in cable health monitoring – setting the direction and influencing the marketplace. Our solution is accelerating and we are building and deploying systems globally and managing an ever growing suite of equipment and systems around the world.
This role is multidisciplinary: Deploying systems globally sometimes at short notice, preparing systems for the field, contributing to the management of relevant IT, documenting projects, build diagrams, managing export paperwork. Contributing to operations management. Contributing to reports, proposals and associated documentation.
In short, this role will be at the front line of Indeximate representing our work in front of the customer base and ensuring that projects run to plan.
Role Accountabilities
- Manage and oversee the deployment of IT and optical systems to the field, configuring them for operation and ensuring they are operating as intended before departing.
- Building and documenting systems for the same
- Managing and extending deployment suites
- Managing data backup
- Reporting on project configuration / execution.
- Liaising with customers to de-risk deployments
- Liaising with freight and export
- Purchasing and inventory management
- Ensure compliance with all relevant health, safety, and environmental regulations.
Key Items of Skill and Knowledge
- Networking, Fibre optic sensing (desired), Linux

- Excellent planning and organisational skills
- Flexibility and adaptability allowing for an effective response to change and the ability to work well in high pressure situations

Experience & Qualifications
- An understanding of Physics is desirable, especially acoustics, as is electrical behaviour of cables
- Experience of managing IT projects and the deployment of systems
- Degree in relevant subject (Data science, Engineering, Physics, computer science, Maths etc.)
- UK citizen with driving licence and ability to travel frequently and internationally

Data Scientist
Indeximate are uplifting continuous sensing data records to the cloud from subsea fibre optic sensors. The main purpose of this data is to inform clients on the state of health and levels of risk to their sub-sea assets. This data needs to be processed, interpreted and understood to give meaningful information to clients. This role is aimed at a candidate who will use processing techniques already developed by Indeximate to obtain this information then to assemble and present reports both internally and externally. Another key part of this role is to help with the development of the algorithms used to extract useful information from the data records. This will involve trying different approaches to those already used and testing before implementation. There will also be opportunities to apply machine learning and alternative data compression techniques to maximise the potential of this approach.
Role Accountabilities
- Process Indeximated data from commercial jobs to extract cable health metrics
- Assemble processed data and help with interpretation of the data for clients
- Investigate new methods of extracting useful metrics from the data
- Check on installations (remotely and in person as needed) and ensure all is running smoothly
- Present data at conferences and customer meetings
- Developing machine learning and data compression techniques to improve our product
- Contribute and curate the test data set
Key Items of Skills and Knowledge
- Demonstrable ability to solve data analysis problems with Matlab, Python or similar
- An ability to implement and test new algorithmic concepts
- Use of data compression and machine learning in real applications
- Effective communication and presentation skills, both written and verbal – the ability to transform data insights into compelling narratives to influence decision making and drive action.
- Effective collaboration and teamworking skills – and comfortable in doing so whilst remote working
- Curiosity, creativity, and a proactive approach to continuous learning
- Flexibility and adaptability allowing for an effective response to change
- Comfortable with regular travel to meetings (internal and external) and conferences as required
Experience & Qualifications
- Understanding of Physics, especially acoustics and acoustic signal propagation
- Physics based modelling
- Understanding of signal processing
- Experience of manipulation and processing of large datasets (> 1 year post degree experience)
- Degree in relevant subject (Data science, Physics, computer science, Maths etc.)
- UK citizen
