Cable Health Monitoring Services

Specific campaigns targeting one-time intervention for cable health.

reducing time to repair

Failure pin pointing

Transform your subsea cable repairs with cutting-edge failure detection technology.

Our rapid-response team deploys advanced Distributed Acoustic Sensing (DAS) equipment to locate cable faults with remarkable precision – within 10 meters across distances up to 200km.

A second or parallel operation with a workboat can then zone this in to a small location on the earth’s surface with tap testing.

The 10 m positional resolution is achievable anywhere along cables up to around 200 km in length.

Ready to minimise your cable repair costs and decrease the uncertainty on where to cut?

Did you know?

We can also report on cetacean activity, lightning, thunder & wave height – although these are more use to the operational community.

One Time Health Assurance

Cable Health Survey: Short-Term Insight, Lasting Impact

Get valuable insights into your cable performance through our short-term turnkey diagnostic service. Over a two-week period, our expert team deploys advanced monitoring equipment to assess your cable’s health under real-world conditions.

This streamlined version of our permanent monitoring solution delivers key performance data, requires no oversight, does not interfere with operations.

Though readings reflect conditions during only the survey period, they provide crucial baseline measurements for better informed and directed Operations and Maintenance planning.

Minimal footprint approach to maximising understanding

The dip in health check may not fully experience the expected range of cable conditions.

Postpone cable failure

Cable Palliative Care

Conventional approaches to failure location detection (thumping) are potentially damaging to the cable – it is not unknown for aggressive thumping measurements to result in new failures on re-energisation.

By extending monitoring for a short period we can extend health checking to a live process to assure clients of performance of other regions of the cable.

For clients with already deteriorated cables they will be faced with the choice of heading in to failure and waiting for a repair window. Health monitoring can provide an alternative where medium term monitoring can act as a feedback loop where the electrical and physical condition of the cable is monitored as a function of throughput to act as a throttling mechanism enabling maximum tolerable power to be carried on the cable without it leading to failure. This can help a cable limp through until a pre-emptive repair can be carried out in benign summer conditions.

Benefits of Cable Health Monitoring

As hardware agnostic, experts in fibre sensing we publish a guide to help developers and asset owners cut through the hyperbole of what technologies will help them with cable help.

The result? Risk is lowered and needless expenditure is eliminated.
